    In 98 many people were hanged...

    In '98 many people were hanged, shot, and murdered. There was a man living in Ballybeg named Thomas Ryan, in the year "98. One day about twenty Yeos were going up the Blackstairs mountain, and Tom saw them. He had a rifle in his hand, and he took a pink at the Yeos. He shot one of them. But the others saw Tom, and they chased him down the mountain. They caught him in Matty Cloney's yard, and they hung him in the yard. There is a rumour out now, that some people are going to erect a monument over him.
