  1. The following incidents of the Land War were often related by my Father, Patrick Bolger, Principal Teacher of the Rathnure Boys' School, who lived in the district during that time.
    The local landlords were Mr. Henry Bruen, Coolbawn, who had Mr. Ruttledge, Coolbawn, for his agent.
    He had a vast property, and had as tenants the farmers of Grange Upper, Rathnure, Ballybawn, Tomanine, Ballygibbon. Monamolin, Coolbawn, Moneynamough, and Gurrawn Upper.
    Another landlord was Canon Blacker, Rector of Killanne, who lived in Woodbrook. He had no agent, but the rents were collected by Mr. Byrne, Killanne, who also acted as his bailiff. Mr Bruen, also had a bailiff, Daniel Quigley, Ballybawn
