    Local Marriage Customs. March 17th, 1938.
    Marriage takes place at every period of the year but not during Lent and Advent. Sometimes marriage takes place on Shrove Tuesday. May is an unlucky month for marriage. Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for presents, Friday for sorrow, Saturday no day at all. Matches are not made in my district. Money is not given as dowry. Stock and goods are given. People don't remember marriages taking place in the houses. A wedding feast is held in the homes. A wedding procession of "hauling home" is not held. Those attending the wedding did not race on horseback against each other on horses on the way home.
