    Signs of Wet Weather
    Sky
When the sky goes down pale
When there is a ring round the moon : the nearer the ring the nearer the storm.
    Chimney
    When the soot falls.
When the smoke goes up straight out of the chimney

    Local Rhyme
When Forth Mountain top, wears a cap
Forth + Bargy beware of that.
Loud quack the ducks the peacocks cry
The distant hills are looking nigh
And thro' the clear stream the fishes rise
And nimbly catch the cautious flies
The soot falls down the spaniels sleep
And spiders from their cobwebs creep
The sun last night went pale to bed
The moon in halos hid her head.
How restless are the snorting swine
The busy flies disturb the kine
Puss on the hearth with velvet paws
Sits wiping o'er her whiskered jaws
The frog has changed his yellow vest
And in a russet coat is dressed.
'T will surely rain I see with sorrow
Our jaunt must be put off to-morrow.
