- Danish Traces. If we had no history books ion Wexford now we would still be able to trace the Danes.
They left a lot of traces which show they came to Wexford and that they were here a good while.
The first thing we have that is Danish is the name of the town which is "Wexford". The ending ford" is like several of the Danish towns most of which end in ford.
These Danes saw the lovely stretch of sand and how nicely their boats washed over them and they called it Wash-ford.
It has since come to be called Wexford.
The next thing we would notice is the narrow streets and if we were to go to Denmark or any other Danish town we would see the same sort of streets. So the Danes must have come to Wexford to make them.
The Danes also built mud walls but they did not last but there are several more traces which they left.Written by Emma Owens
