    well as making bitter enemies of the men who were employed to take the place of the men locked out. There was of number of extra police in the town and one man died as a result of being struck with batan, whose name was O'Leary of King Street.
    After a period of distress the strike was eventually settled, and the men reinstated, but unfortunately some would not return to their work.
    With the general rejoicings tar barrels blazed on the eminences around the town, while the old Brigade Band and the Faythe Band paraded in (posses) processions with torch lights, playing "Let Erin Remember" and "A Nation Once Again"
