  1. Born in Killane in the year 1773 A.D. John Kelly was the son of a farmer who was also a shopkeeper.
    Curly fair-hair hung loosely down on his broad shoulders. He was very tall being about seven feet and a few inches in height.
    In the bloom of his youth at the age of twenty-five he led the Irish army against the English forces.
    Seeing the persecution on the Irish by the yeomanry the anger of the lion-hearted John Kelly was aroused. Gathering together about five hundred men he
