    flax used to be grown extensively on the South Slob. The remains of a flax mill can still be seen in Sinnottstown, Drinagh. It is probable that the flax was spun and woven there. Another ruin of a woollen mill is still seen in the Deerpark, Murrintown, implying that wool as well as flax was made locally.
    Mrs. Hayes another resident of Rathjarney knits socks, stockings, jumpers and gloves. The thread is got in Wexford. The stockings she knits are sold at one and sixpence per pair.
    Three dressmakers are in the district. Mrs. Parle of Drinagh, Mrs. Murphy, of Rosemount, and Miss Maloney of Lattimerstown.
    Black is worn for nine months after the death of a relative in this locality.
