  1. Potatoes were mashed after boiling and mixed with equal quantities of flour. It was kneaded and then baked on a griddle. Butter was usually mixed with it.
    Oat-meal cake was baked in the same manner as wheaten cake.
    Sticks, Straw or bushes as well as dried Cow-manure or horse manure were used for baking
    Dried bean-stalks were much used when bean growing was extensively practised in this County.
    Bread was baked about twice a week as it was regarded as more economical and healthier than freshly baked bread
    A Cross was cut on cake to Keep Crust from rising.
    A Griddle was a flat pan without an edge
    The Crust of Cake was hardened by Standing it against fire Supported by a block of wood.
    This produced a grand crisp crust
