    There were nine severely wounded
But a few who were not hurt
As the white flag waved above them,
As the lay in the muck and dirt.
    The survivors craved for mercy
    And mercy it was shown
By the captain of the volunteers
Whose name was Sean Mac Eoin.
The wounds he dressed and bandaged
    And acted quiet tenderly
And gave them back a lorry
    To take them to Ballinalee.
The guns they left behind them
For they wont come back again
Three rousing cheers for the volunteers
    And the battle of Clonfin.
The above was composed by Wm. Donnelly Moatfarrell in 1922 after the ambush at Clonfin.
