  1. There was a famous poet by the name of Goldsmith living in Lissoy some years ago. Two of this poems were "The deserted Village" and "The Traveller". Oliver Goldsmith was born in Pallas in the year seventeen twenty eight. He was educated in Trinity College, Dublin. His father died when he was very young, and Oliver was left to support a large family. He made use of his education, and later on became a poet.

One of our poets of to-day is Hubert Quest. He is able to put poems to rhyme. He lives in Kilkenny West, at the present time.
