  1. The marriages in this district generally take place in the month of February,before Ash Wednesday,and in November before Advent. The month of May is thought to be unlucky.

    Wednesday the best day of all
    Thursday for losses,
    Friday for crosses
    Saturday the worst day of all.
    The marriages in this district generally take place on Wednesday.
    Matches are made locally both now and in the past. Long ago when matches were been made the suitor brought a confidential friend with him. The friend generally carried a bottle of whiskey to the house of the parents of his intended wife. Long ago men and women went round as match makers.
