  1. The Law of this Diocese concerning Wakes and Funerals.
Owing to certain abuses at corpse house the following Law was made by the late bishop Dr. Hoover. It is displayed prominently in every church in the Ardagh and Clonmacnoise diocese.
The distribution of intoxicating drink at wakes and funerals is distinctly prohibited.
No young unmarried man, or woman, except the near Relatives shall be present at a wake, from the setting of the Sun till his rising.
This law binds under pain of mortal sin. Whoever violates this law shall be considered a Scandal giver. Where this law is violated there shall be no mass celebrated in the corpse house.
    February 17th 1903.
