    With a rush and a roar they came on,

    But the bright gleaming sword of the Slasher.
    Crashed headlong through helmet and crown

    To break trough the ranks of the Gaels.
    A grenadier swarthly and frowning.
    With buckler and armour of mail.
    He leaped to the side of the Slasher.
    One moment he stood there alone
    Then downwards he rolled from the saddle
    And fell on the earth with a groan.
