    There are a great number of diseases and sores, which come upon some people before they can know that they have come upon them. The following are names of diseases and sores.
    1. The mumps are very common about this country, because nearly everyone take this disease. It is an old saying that when any child takes the mumps, that some other person should put a donkeys winkers on them, and bring them out to the pigsty, and say these words. "Lecna, Lecna pigs take the lecna, and that the disease decays away.
