    This is a song composed by Patrick Elliot when Father Coughlan, who was a Curate here 24 years ago, volunteered to act as Chaplain in the Great War. Fr. Coughlin was one of those who returned safely & was stationed at Gormanstown. He is now

    Sad, sad are we in Gráinseach Gaoith
    Since our Pastor dear is gone away,
    I mean brave Father Coughlin,
    For him we all should pray.
    God save him from the German
    His bullet or his spear,
    And send him back safe to us,

    This patriotic clergyman
    Who left us here in tears
    At the sweet call of duty
    Sure he swept away all fears,
    And all his proud ambition
    Was the soldiers' souls to cheer
