  1. Mr. Rothwell was a good catholic gentleman and he would not teach anyone only gentleman's son. He had a school in Farrell Street and he taught English, Irish and Mathematics.
    Mr. Murray taught Greek and Latin. He used to teach out in the middle of the fields in Maudlin and two boys would sit on the top of a hill and warn the Masters if "the yeos" were coming. When their hour would be spent two more would go up on the hill to watch.
    Mr. Corcoran had a school on the Height, Mr. Nelson has one in Carrick Street, and Mr. Smith in Suffolk Street. They taught rich and poor, The rich people would bring twopence a day to support the school Master.
