  1. Story
An old farmer and his son lived convenient to Collon about five miles from Ardee, on very poor land. At the end of July the old man died. Before he died he told his son to sell three cocks of hay which they owned (they had eight) and get a mass said for him.
"Aur! Indeed I will", said the son, "an' I-ll sell them all an' get two masses if ye like".
"No! No! Paddy, wan 'ill get me through the night" rejoined his father.
After the father died Paddy though he'd want the hay for the cows and calves during the winter. He brough it in and made a pike of it, thus breaking his promise to the old man. At the end of August, Paddy was asleep one night and the father appeared at the foot of the bed and wakened Paddy.
"Ah, my a' my father' what's wrong?" exclaimed Paddy.
"Ah son, why didn't ye sell the hay and get the mass sed for me?" said the father.
"Aw I forgot, I forgot" said Paddy rubbing his eyes.
"Ah if ye had ta get the mass sed fo'me I'd be in heaven long 'go. All I suffered since" said his father "Ah! Musha! Where are ye? father" said Paddy.
