The people had to go miles to the nearest shop for their goods. The money would not be given when the people would get the goods. It would be paid by the week or month. Money was not as plentiful that time as it is now. The things were not so dear that time as now. It is often said in buying and selling "Iwill give it to you at cost price" The markets were held in Ardee, Dundalk, Louth and Mullacrew. It a person was selling a cow or a horse the buyer would get a half crown or five bob for a "luck penny" There is an old woman comes round our house every month. She sells cups and saucers plates and hairpins and pins. Her name is Biddy Swift.
