This was the greatest loss of life that ever happened around this coast for a long number of years. On the night she was lost there was the worst gale since the night of the "big wind". There was only one man saved and he belonged to the cargo boat. The bodies were all washed ashore with the exception of one or two.
The upturned wreck could be seen in the lough for years, but now it has sunk, and is no longer a danger to local shipping. A floating buoy marks the spot where the Connemara lies buried.- Collector
