  1. (continued from previous page)
wanted to marry a girl to go to the girl's home and bring a neighbour man with him to make the match and very often a bottle of whiskey. The sum of money she was to get was fixed and it was given to the groom on the wedding morning before they were married. Sometimes a cow was given others times an acre of land. It was also a custom for a bride to get a new bed home with her to her new home.
They had some sayings which they observed about the days they were married on such as. - Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for Crosses, Friday for losses, Saturday no day at all.
They had certain clothes which they wore -
    Something old, something new,
    Something borrowed, something blue.
Marry in May you'll rue the day.
A blue bride is a rue bride.
