  1. Long ago there were no factories to make things, such as, laces, candles, soap, chairs, and many other things, and the people made them themselves. As for candles, they got a mould the shape of the candle; then they got lard or sheep's tallow. They melted the lard and poured it into the mould placing twine in the centre as a wick. When this dried the candle was ma They cut blocks of timber as chairs. No one of these trades is left because we have things made in factories.
