- "Coalbrook" Continued
This is a wierd looking spot, bears a "bad name" It is not so weird now, as it used to look before the old trees were out. The Langley family lived here quite a long time but are now extinct. One of the family, named John was not "well liked" by his neighbours - who were all Catholics. This man was known as "Yellow Jack Langley" In his Will, which I read in a very old book years ago, he left money for so much beer, whiskey +c and meat and numerous knives, so that when the neighbours wd come to his Wake, they would murder each other. Then the "country" wd. be well rid of "their class". The Langleys who succeeded him and when I remember - were all very well disposed towards their neighbours very well liked in turn. They kept a couple of coal-mines going and gave much employment otherwise.
It is said that on eof Langley's tomb is right before the Hall door, in "Coalbrook House" where thet once lived. Langleys of Orchards Town Thurles are the same stack as above the family Some maintain that the grave at Hall door is that of the above fellow Jack Langley.- Bailitheoir
