    There is a district very convenient to here called Palatine Street.
    People of different religious persuasions live there - some Protestant (highchurch), others Methodists, Westleans, Baptists ^ Dippers.
    They are all a shrewd, hardworking people who make use of land and gardens.
    They are noted for their economic ways of living. The women are good cooks, and make jams and jellies from various fruits and vegetables. Potato soups are common. They often employ Catholic labour. The following conversations took place in times long gone by and are still well remembered.
    Old Palatine Landlady: 'I wonder James did I put any sugar in your tea?'
    James (workman): 'Oh begor you did ma'm for I see it easily in the bottom of the cup'
    (The tea was evidently light)
