- (continued from previous page)paces from his own door. His dog followed him. It was a very dark night and he was afraid to go far. The trees seemed like huge ghosts to him. He got courage and walked a few paces farther until he was at the end of the borheen. He then heard a terrible noise like cattle running. He had his dog and his fiddle with him. A small old man came on driving a herd of cattle and the cattle were running in all directions from him. The boy said to the old man "can I help you?" The little man said "yes" so he drove the cattle to the fair with the old man. The boy said it was a pity his dog was so old and the little man said "he will soon be young again". Next he heard some footsteps and he saw a bundle of sticks moving in the air but he could see nobody carrying them. It was very dark and when he came near the bundle of sticks he saw it was a old woman who was carrying the sticks on her back. the boy said to her "can I help you" and she said "yes" so he took the sticks off her(continues on next page)
