- Once upon a time there was a man working in our house named Martin Ryan, during the time Otway was landlord of this place. One day the man was ploughing in a field which we title the "nursery." He was going up the field when he struck against something very hard. He took it to be a stone, he went to see would he have any chance of raising it up, but to his great surprise he saw he had just knocked the lid off a pot of gold. At the same time John Otway was riding through the field, and the man could not do anything to it, because Otway would claim it if he saw it, so he put down a mark over the gold and continued on ploughing till Otway was gone. When he came again to the place where the gold was, he saw a lot of marks around it, next he saw a little man running away with the pot under his arm.
