  1. About twenty-eight years ago a sad drowning occurred in Cooneen river a distance of about two miles from Templederry village. It was the drowning of a child aged two years. On this occasion both Mr and Mrs Madden the parents with their child, were retuning from a burial.
In their absence a flood had risen in the river. While they were driving across the river the great current of the water overturned their horse and car. The mother of the child unable to bear the roaring water let the child slip from her arms. There was no possibility of saving the child as it was carried off by the roaring flood. The body was found the next morning about 300 yards further down the river.
