  1. I heard of a man who lived near the Lough many years ago who was a powerful swimmer. He purchased a bonham at Croom Pig Market and apparently got well lubricated prepatory to his homeward trip. When he returned from the Market in removing the bonham from the ass crib it escaped and ran across an intervening field towards the Lough, hotly pursued by its owner.
    The man almost captured the animal at the edge of the Lough but the bonham made a sudden diversion and took the water swimming on towards the centre of the Lough. The man divested himself of boots and clothes and swam in pursuit of his refractory purchase. This was a precarious proceeding and needless, so to speak as the bonham was an expert swimmer and reached an accessable place on the other side.
