    The old story about the pursuit of Our Saviour by the Roman soldiers, and meeting the robin, etc. is told with variations in this district. It is told that after the robin putting the soldiers off His track, the dearg-daol put his head above ground and said to the soldiers, "indé, indé, I saw Him yesterday."
    This put the soldiers on the right trail, and ever since the dearg-daol is an accursed insect.
    It is believed locally that if you bite a dearg-daol into two parts with your teeth, seven years' sins will be forgiven you
