  1. A young man was out fighting for his country, commonly known as on the run. He used to go to see his aged mother at certain times when he thought it safe. On one occasion when nearing his own house he was surprised to see his mother pale and frightened looking, approaching him.
    She took the usual parcel from under her shawl, and said, "Fly for your life the house is surrounded". "never" he said, "and leave you in their mercy." "Go at once I am safe they cannot touch me."
