- Long ago bread used be made from potatoes, oaten meal, wheat and many other vegetables.
Before the potato was brought to Ireland wheaten bread was the staple food.
The government are encouraging the people to grow more wheat, because it is from the wheat that the flour is got. Also you are keeping your money at home, and you are giving employment to your own country men.
Long ago the people used set a lot of wheat, and they used grind their own flour.
We bake about two or three times a week.
People have different ways of baking, in ranges but the the most common way is in an oven over the fire. They put a nice lot of turf and coal on the fire, and they leave it(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
