    beans were put on the fire. If the beans leaped together those named would be married to one another. It was a habit with old people to lay their saucers on the table on November Eve. Earth was put in the first, water in the second, and a ring in the last one. A person was then blind-folded and directed to the table. If he put his hand into the saucer of earth he was sure to die during the year. If he put his hand into the saucer of water he should cross the sea to seek his fortune. But if he had the luck to handle the ring he was sure to get married.
