  1. About fifty years ago, Mr John O'Grady of Glin, the father of Mr T O'Grady, assistant in our school, was going to the fair of Listowel. The morning was breaking when he was as far as Gale bridge about five miles north of Listowel. In front of him and coming towards him he heard a great clattering of hoofs. When he got nearer he saw that there were seven horses galloping along in the direction of Tarbert. He drew one side to let them pass. He noticed that two of them were tackled as if their owners intended to go ploughing with them, but the others had neither tackling nor harness. There was no one in charge of them. The strangest thing about the matter was that while many saw them, others who were quite close too, did not see them at all. The strange sight caused a good deal of comment at the time. There was, however, no sequel to the event, but all believed they were fairy horses.
