  1. A Local Happening

About fifteen years ago my uncle was working with a man near Tarbort.

About fifteen years ago, my uncle was working with a man near Tarbert. They were putting in hay, and they found eggs in it. The man told my uncle to put three eggs up on the fence, but not to break them. Accidentally he let one egg fall and broke it. The following day my uncle let a colt out of the house, that he had bought in Rathkeale, three or four days before that . The colt began to gallop and jumped over a fence and broke his neck and died that evening. The broken egg, all believed, was responsible for this bit of ill-luck.
