  1. Bread
    Bread is the ordinary food that the Irish people use. Long ago people had more varieties of bread than the people had today. They used to grind the wheat themselves long ago by means of a quern.
    This was composed of two heavy stones one saucer shaped and fitting into the other. The wheat was poured in between the stones and the upper stone was worked by means of a handle.
    They gathered up the husks and burned them and they put the flour into bags. Then the cooks baked cakes from the flour. They put a few saucers of flour into a flour pan and mixed it. They put a hole in the middle of the flour and poured milk into it and mixed it together.
    When they had it fully mixed they kneaded it and shaped it. They had no bastables long ago only griddles. They heated the griddle and
