  1. There was a widow living in this place.
    She had three charming sons.
Their father died left them when they were very young.
    A long time she endeavoured
    To maintain her darling sons
Till the youngest one became a man.
At the age of twenty one.
One night he discoursed with his mother
Those words to her did say
I think it will fall on one of us
    To travel far away.
Your land is too small to maintain us all.
    And if you will agree.
I am fully bent and well content.
    A clergy man to be.
His mother being glad to hear.
Such thoughts come in his mind.
    She spoke unto his brothers.
    And they did all agree.
They sent him off to college.
    A clergy man to be.
