   As he took the old goat by the halter
   Amidst laughter and shout
   He led her right out without falter.

   It is customary in this district to play a turkey, goat, an old cow, a bicycle etc during the winter period especially before Christmas. Each player usually pays one shilling to the owner of the animal or article and the final winner gets the prize.
   On such occasions about twenty years ago the above composition was made by Daniel Sheahan, Barleyhill, Newmarket, Co Cork. I got this piece from his brother Denis Sheahan, The Line, Meelin, Co Cork.
