    This incident was supposed to have happened in 1721 (circ.) and was reproduced in Michael Davitt's speech 1890.

    The name 'Cill-Míde' is derived from a lady whose name was Míde or Mide. It is said she was a Saint who had a cill or kind of church built for herself here in this place. There is neither trace nor tidings of the 'Cill' now, but there is a holy-well in the place now as Sláine or (in English) the Slanan. There is a big cross erected a little from the well but this has no connection with either the well or the Saint. The cross was erected by the Leaders who came over with Cromwell and
