    Away in the north-west of the Iveleary country, near Millstreet stand the ruined Castle of Kilmeedy, and Drishane Castle, which has been restored. Both are in the Parish of Drishane and situated on the confines of Magoniky, West Muskerry & Duhallow (see other side of leaf)
    ------------------------------------------------------
    Kilmeady Castle.
    This was erected by Diarmuid McCarthy in 1436 and Drishane Castle by his son 1445(?). The former is still in a fair state of preservation. The stone-work of its doors & windows as well as parts of a stone stairs which lead from the ground floor to the third floor has been torn away by a neighbouring farmer some years ago, while some it its stones were also used to build Mt. Leader House.
    The following episode is told about Kilmeedy Castle. There was heard before a Special Commission in London in 1890 an account of "Charles MacCarthy of Kilmeedy being in party with Colonel Phayre
