  1. The only local hero I knew of in this district was Michael O Connell. He came to Kinsale about forty years ago from Bantry.
    He was able to lift very heavy bags of flour, and could throw a weight of two hundredweight over a bar, thirty feet from the ground.
    He could stay under water, when swimming, for ten or eleven minutes. He was able to ride unbroken colts that no other man would go near.
    His death came when he was coming home after a dance in a car, which caught fire, and he was burned alive.
