    there was a machine or bellows for blowing the fire, The floor was made of yellow earth which was left get dry and hard. The furniture in the kitchen was not like the thing now, it consisted of a table, a few chairs two stools a cupboard and a dresser. The dresser and the cupboard formed a partition between the kitchen and the room which generally had a bed or two in it. Most of the old houses were built in out of the way places, with no garden in front but a yard full of manure or green pools.
