  1. (continued from previous page)
    is the prayer they said:-
There are four corners in my bed
    And four angels overhead
St. Matthew, St. Mark, Luke and St. John
May bless the bed that I lay on.
    Another prayer:
In the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ crucified, lay me down to rest. Bless me oh my God, defend me and govern me that after this short and miserable pilgrimage bring me to everlasting life. Amen.
On kindling the fire they said:
God grant that it will light and may the Lord give us the light of heaven.
    When passing the graveyard:
God have mercy on the poor suffering souls in Purgatory and may God release them from their sins.
