  1. Only among the older people of the Muskerry district is there heard nowadays "You'd beat Malachy himself." At one time it carried a searing implication of contempt and disbelief, for the Malachy involved was a name of sinister import. He was a product of the bad days after 1798, and is little, if at all known by the present generation.
