1. The Sradóg

   The "Spadóg" was another form of light which the old people had. There was no mould for these and they were made of Bees' wax.

   The Thread was dipped several times in the bees wax, until something like a taper was formed.

   They were not used much because they were only like a spark. But they were used as Blessed Candles and were always taken to be Blessed on Candlemas Day.

   It was an ould custom to light one of those "Sradóg" under a cow after calving.

   But the most common light that you'd see with every body was the Splinters. They were called the Sciotachán. These were made from a Sgolb of fir found in the bog. But every Sgolb wasn't suitable for making the "Splinters". It was no good unless it was free. The fact of the
