  1. SORE THROAT. This was treated by boiling potatoes and then roasting them in hot ashes. They were then put in a stocking which was tied around the neck.
    A "wisp" was cured by one's fasting spit or by rubbing it with a gold wedding ring and by making the Sign of the Cross three times
    A sty could be cured by bathing it with cold tea.
    A burn could be quickly cured by rubbing a Lizard to it. A poultice of cowdung was also effective.
    MEASLES could be cured by drinking milk left over by a ferret
    A red-hot needle placed on a tooth soon relieved the tooth-ache. Salt put in the tooth also helped.
    A hot plate was used to cure mumps.
    To cure a boil, fill a bottle with very hot water empty it, apply the mouth of the bottle over the boil. A poultice of soap and sugar was very effective for this complaint
    A growth was cured by applying a fox's tongue.
