  1. About five miles east of Castletown Bere in a townland called Park there is a huge castle known as the Danes' castle. Long ago the Danes built this castle and there they kept their ill-gotten goods. It was also used by them as a hiding place.
This castle is built underground and it extends about half a mile under the earth.
There are about seven steps leading down to it the last being about three feet from the ground.
It is said that some men went down there one time with lanterns but when they were about to enter their lanterns went out. They tried several times but it was useless so they fled from it in fear.
