    games. All the neighboring children gathered in and we played many different sorts of tricks. First we tied an apple from the ceiling and everyone attempted to get a bite, while the apple swung hither and thither. When the zest of the company for this attraction had spent itself we placed a coin in a basin of water and each one tried to retrieve it, but unless he or she was very handy the result was a good wetting.
    Then we played tricks with the saucers. We put clay on one, in another water, and in another a ring, in another a cross and in the last a thimble. Each one was blindfolded in turn and he reached for a saucer. The first saucer touched indicated the person's fate. The clay means death, the water a voyage, the ring marriage, the cross a religious life, the thimble the career of an old maid.
