    the houses are neatly thatched. The most common family name in the village was Gibbons. There were six families of that name and now there is only one.
    There are very few old people and none of them speaks Irish. There are about two hundred acres of excellent land in the village of Tuam with plenty of turbary attached.

    We sow about one acre of potatoes every Spring. The land is usually covered with stable manure before being plough into ridges
