  1. In Clooncagh Hynes in the parish of Carniska, Strokestown. County Roscommon, there are ruins of an ancient fort, and people believed that long ago it was inhabited by fairies.
    Long ago people used little or no soap and when washing clothes they always pounded them with an instrument called a 'beetle'
    There was one woman and she always came to do her washing on a big stone situated near a pond in the fort. One day she felt herself being lifted and thrown back against the stone.
