Three dishes are taken: one filled with clean water, another with dirty water, and a third is left empty. These are left side by side on a table the position of the dishes being changed every time. The players blind folded poke the ring finger into any dish they like and the fates duly oblige with an answer. The clean water shows a happy marriage, the dirty water a trouble and a stormy union, the empty bowl shows that no marriage is probably until the next Halloween comes.
